Baby and I Do! I Do!
Each is about the fragile, searching nature of relationships between men and women, which ultimately affirm the human need to
cohabitate.
These musical plays have universal appeal to an audience. Each are filled with a shared understanding about the subject matter without being sentimental.
In BABY, the score lends itself to a pop rock style with lyrics that propel the episodic nature of the book, where as in, I DO, I DO there is lush score which underlines and gets into the emotional nature of the principals and there marital journey.
They are each relatively simple to produce because of cast size, a unit set with I DO, I DO and BABY, furniture pieces, each allowing financial resources of a moderate amount to be spent to achieve a quality production.
I am particularly drawn to these two musicals because they explore the fragile, searching nature of relationships between men and women, which are ultimately portrayed in an affirmative manner.
In approaching these musicals my strengths as a director are: My collaborative nature, strong sense of telling the story through the text. With the actor process in mind, breaking down the text as well as exploring an artistic approach different from my own in solving problematic work. My aesthetic is an instinctual process, which, though always evolving, is guided by a tasteful sense of beauty and strength in the fragile, searching nature of the human condition.
My diplomatic skills as director are constantly in motion in keeping the artistic and production team motivated and focused, aware of the delicate balance of evaluating priorities as the rehearsal process plays out toward the production opening and channels of communication that must proceed all around, preferring to establish a positive, upbeat, consistent manor in my style, to achieve a successful production.
